BATTLE
Out
of the fog races the destroyer after the U-boat, a sleek and deadly killer
hunting the hunter.
Turning
tightly to out turn the bigger ship the submarine tries to escape. To dive
would be to die so he fights it out in the thinning fog, on the surface, in a
crazy battle to the death.
Twenty
millimetre cannons flash and send tracer shells in all directions. The main gun
on sub fires hitting the destroyer who in turn fires his four inch guns which
straddle the sub.
Again
twisting and turning, the U-boat sends 20mm shells raking the destroyers bow,
sending up sparks and shrapnel wounding and killing several men.
Return
cannon fire peppers the sub, cutting down her own main gun crew in a shower of
blood and severed limbs.
With
the luck of the devil the U-boat slips back into the fog, escaping her pursuer
– for now.
