BARREN

BARREN

Anna spent many hours every day thinking of the time when she was banished to the island. It was actually “her island” now. She had been here twenty five years; she knew so by the turn of the seasons and marked each down upon the wall of her stone cottage. Banished because she was infertile and would never have children, to this place one hundred and fifty miles off the Norwegian coast, a prison without bars. In her bones she felt her loneliness as she stared out to sea, looking at the turbulent waves. They were always in motion like her wounded mind. Sighing, Anna turned and walked back to her cottage. The afternoon light was perfect; it was time to paint another tortured painting of the ocean. She knew the sea felt her pain, that the ocean was her jailer. Not her lost husband who banished his young wife here, he was innocent in Anna’s eyes, acting on his father’s orders. Standing before her canvas, Anna sighed and mixed her colours together before her. A crazy image took shape where everything was moving. Ocean blue was her favourite colour. She’d leave out the strange yellow lights. A single tear ran down her cheek. Her pain was eternal, yet she smiled.

Anna turned the metal music up on her stereo. Iron Maiden blared out of the speakers. She worked on her canvas, her artwork was nearly finished. In her mind she remembered what had occurred yesterday. It was terrifying but her fear of the event was short lived, overcome by curiosity. This wasn’t of this place, her island prison. She had been watching the sea, the blues and greens were forever moving. Something made the ocean move in the wrong way.

   “What the hell?” Anna stuttered.

The sea kicked upwards and rose many metres, then exploded in a huge tower of white spray. A silver object, totally unnatural, slowly rose out of the depths. It broke loose of the vast salty water and was free; it was like a newly minted coin, silver and quite magnificent. Rather beautiful yet overtly malevolent. What or who was inside the flying disc? It rose effortlessly and arced round with no sound. Dipping slightly as it turned, Anna saw it was perfect in its design. She stood rooted to the spot, scared or interested? The disc slowed and landed twenty yards away from Anna, on the grass by the cliff top. One minute later the side opened up and a figure emerged, she had flame red hair. In a hushed voice she announced: “I came to help you.”

“Who the heck are you?” Anna gasped, looking at the person before her, her mouth wide open in amazement.

“Anna, my name is Juniper’s Daughter. I don’t want you to be afraid; I promise I won’t hurt you. I want to help you,” Juniper’s Daughter said, smiling.

“How do you know this? Where did you come from? How can you fly that... that thing, from out of the sea, just like that? That’s not possible!”

“Yes it is Anna. You saw it with your own eyes. How can that be a lie? This craft was built by aliens a long time ago. I use their ship for the good of humankind, call it my job. Listen,” explained the witch, “I know you have a bad leg. Do you want me to heal it?”

“My leg? How the fuck do you know about that? You can’t see it because of my brown skirt,” Anna replied, looking down at her windblown skirt. Her leg ached, as always.

“If you let me heal it, then you’ll believe me.”

Anna thought about it for a few minutes, glancing at her leg, to the strange woman before her and at her flying saucer. Finally, Anna nodded. “Yes, do it.”

“Okay, please come here and stand before me,” instructed Juniper’s Daughter.

“Okay,” agreed the island woman. She slowly walked over and stopped one metre from the witch.

“This won’t take long and will be painless.” Juniper’s Daughter knelt down and touched Anna’s leg. Lifting up her brown cotton skirt, the witch saw the raw wound that refused to heal and grimaced. Purple scabs covered half of Anna’s lower leg; newer ones were a vivid red. Placing her left hand over the affected area, Juniper’s Daughter closed her eyes and whispered several strange incantations. Her breathing became deep and regular, she concentrated and focused her positive healing energy. A sudden white light came forth from her hand, totally obscuring Anna’s leg. The light rose in brightness till it was impossible to look at. Then suddenly it was gone.

“What the hell?” whispered Anna. She saw fresh pink skin where the old scars and ruddy wound had been. “That’s not possible.”

“Now do you believe me? Your wound is healed. The new skin will soon be the same colour as the surrounding skin and you won’t be able to spot the difference. Be careful when you walk over the rocks, you don’t want to fall again and hurt yourself again,” said the red haired girl, standing up. She offered her hand in friendship. Anna took it and they shook. Friends.

Back in the present, Anna left her finished canvas to dry and cleaned her brushes. She ejected the music CD from her stereo and turned it off. Walking over to her LCD TV, she picked up the remote and clicked it on. Going to the War Channel, she watched a movie called The Blue Max. Anna loved war films, especially ones about aircraft and air battles. She relaxed in her red leather easy chair and watched the film. In her mind though, the stocky woman was uneasy. It was the things Juniper’s Daughter had said to her that spooked her. Things about having a baby and being back with her lost husband again. Anna knew that was all impossible, all of it, but being inside the flying saucer when the strange woman said it, somehow swayed Anna’s mind. A glimmer of hope.
Anna’s biggest fears were like the Devil’s shopping list. She couldn’t have kids and was totally infertile. Anna had been banished to this little island for twenty five years. To do that, her husband mustn’t have loved her and now he would be long settled with someone else. No man would want her now including her former husband. She was middle aged and going grey, her brown hair ruined by grief and stress. Her brown eyes were dead eyes, with no positive emotions. Only insanity and pain lived in those once sparkly happy eyes. Her fair complexion was ravaged and blown away by the strong northerly winds. She was a hollow shadow of her past self. Stop worrying she told herself and watch the film.

Later Anna fed her only companion, her dear friend and pet, Tom. He was a wild rabbit who had been lost in a storm and she found him when he was half dead. Nursing him back to health, she gave him food, water and lots of love. Now he was very tame and friendly, her only friend. Anna didn’t consider Juniper’s Daughter a friend, why should she? She hadn’t seen another person in twenty five years and what about the strange entry the mad woman had made? Flying out of the sea in an alien craft. Just crazy!

“What do you think Tom? Is she mad? She’s the first person I’ve seen in all my time here and you know what? I’m not bothered, not at all. People are the reason I ended up here, banished forever. Fuck them!” Anna ranted, passing her pet rabbit a home grown carrot. He took it hungrily. “Only you matter Tom. Nobody else, not at all”

Tom ate his carrot and squeaked once in agreement.

“Still, I always wanted kids and still do. Do you think she tells the truth? Am I too old to bear a child? I’m forty five now. She says such lies,” sighed Anna, taking a drink of homemade beer. She needed a drink, a strong one, after recent events. I’ll always be alone, she thought, wiping away a tear. Not even my holidays on the other side of my island help stop my pain. Do they make it worse?

The strange red haired woman called Juniper’s Daughter returned a few days later, to see how Anna was and if her leg was fine. Anne was walking by the cliff edge, peering down over the five hundred foot drop at the waves crashing upon the rocks far below. White spray made the rocks glisten like newly melted chocolate. Each crashing wave made a booming noise that Anna liked. It reminded her why she was hear and gave her something to look forward to – doing a new painting of those very waves and ocean. Suddenly from out of the dark rain filled clouds a series of yellow lights appeared, blinking on and off several times.

“Looks like bitch is back with her fancy flying machine,” commented Anna, angrily spitting over the cliff edge, into the wind.

From out of the clouds a silver object appeared, itself taking on the look of a cloud. Yellow lights showed its disc like outline against the murk. The object rapidly grew larger and dropped below the cloud base and majestically landed, like a ballerina doing a somersault with the grace of a swan. It was fifty yards away on a flat area of ground, far from the cliff. Was the witch scarred of the drop? thought Anna. Looking over, she saw a hole appear in the smooth metal craft and the red haired girl stepped out.

“Greetings Anna, how are you doing?” shouted Juniper’s Daughter over the wind. The opening closed and she walked over.

“I knew you’d come back, I saw your lights in the sky. I know you’re a witch,” replied Anna, ignoring the question on her health.

“Yes you’re correct; I am a witch amongst other things. I heal as you know. How is your leg? Fine I presume?” commented the witch.

“Only a witch would possess such a craft as a flying saucer and only a witch could heal my injured leg like that. My leg is okay, no blood or pain. I thank you for that. I didn’t mean to be insolent before when you healed it. It’s just I haven’t seen another person in a very long time.” Anna looked downcast and gazed longingly out to sea. She sighed and blinked away her tears.

“Do you want to see him? I can take you there, right now in my flying disc. All you need to do is say yes.” Juniper’s Daughter knew how sad Anna was, at her continued isolation on her island from her husband. Not even twenty five years killed her love for him, it made it even stronger. That was admirable.

“You can take me there? Right now? You’re not lying or tricking me, are you?”

“No, no I would never lie or trick you Anna. I mean what I say. I will take you to your husband right now if you want me to.”

“Yes. Take me, right now. Right this very moment,” Anna answered, smiling as tears flowed down her face. She didn’t mind the witch seeing her weep now.

“Come Anna, take my hand. You won’t ever be alone or sad ever again.”

The two women held hands and walked to the silver craft that rested upon the green grass, under a moody grey sky on an island surrounded by a blue green sea that was never still. Climbing aboard the disc, they entered this fantastic machine. It soon zoomed out of sight and headed towards the Norwegian mainland guided by destiny herself. a witch called Juniper’s Daughter.

In a small fishing village, a man struggled to sleep. As usual he was haunted by dreams which killed his rest and made him feel uneasy. The same dream every night for twenty five years: the banishing of his dear wife to an off shore island because she was barren. She would never give him a son to continue his bloodline. His “new” wife of twenty four years was by his side, asleep. He had never loved her, not like he did his first wife. Yes, he was fond of her but it wasn’t love. She had given him three children, of which two were boys. His family bloodline was safe for another generation. It was his father who had found the second wife, the daughter of a neighbouring family. The ceremony was a rushed affair, as if it would remove the memory of the failed first marriage. Did his father know his son still loved his banished wife, even now over two decades later? What would he do if his son sailed to the island to join his wife, send a hunting party to kill them both? A violent law of family existed here; betray that and you were as good as dead.

Suddenly there was a whooshing noise and the wooden house shook. This jerked the man awake from his worries, he got out of bed and made his way outside, wearing only his night clothes. On the field in front of the house was such a crazy sight. A shiny silver disc lit up yellow, illuminating the scene. In front of the disc were two women. One was dark haired, maybe red, and the other was someone strangely familiar. It was his first wife, his real wife! He ran over and almost stumbled over the rough grass. In seconds he was with her, in her arms. She had changed so much! They years hadn’t been kind to her, she was going grey and her eyes were sad eyes. Yet it was still her! His Anna! How was this possible?

“My love, I knew you’d come. I knew you would. Every single day for twenty five years, I prayed you’d come back! You have my love!” said the man, Anna’s husband, through his tears. He fell to his knees in utter shock.

Anna smiled and her eyes came alive, for the first time in all those years. She walked over to her husband and knelt down, embracing him. She kissed him. He returned her kiss; she felt his tears on her cheek. “We’re together now. Come with me and join me on the island. No one will interfere or stop us.”

“How did you know I was here? What is that machine? Who is your friend?” asked the man, incredulous.  Slowly he regained his composure and stood up, not taking his eyes of the scene before him or the girl in his arms. “You want me to leave? And leave all of this? My family and my home? My livelihood and my parents? You know what my father is like. He hasn’t changed; he’ll pursue us and kill us all.”

“I promise to answer all of your questions when we leave, all of them. We can be together, do you want that? I do, I have all this time. I’ve never stopped loving you, not for one moment. Join me my love on my island.”

Silence descended on the scene. The man thought it over. Leave his wife, who he never loved, to look after their children. What about his vengeful father? He decided.

“Let’s go. Right now. I never did love my second wife. She’s not like you,” he said, looking back at his house. It looked like it belonged to a stranger. It did. Fuck his father; he’d caused enough heartbreak already, especially for Anna.

“We must go now,” Juniper’s Daughter commented, joining the conversation. She indicated to the opening in the craft.

“Come my love,” Anna whispered, urging her husband to go. She took his hand and led him to the disc. They climbed aboard. The witch entered last, she cast a spell so no one would miss the absent husband or realise where he had gone. Silently the disc took off and flew into the clouds, out of sight.

“Liam my dear, how I missed you. I waited twenty five years for this to happen, for us to be back together,” Anna said, embracing her husband. They were sat on a red leather seat in the craft’s control room. The witch sat separately and flew the disc.

“We won’t be apart again, not ever. Tell me my dear Anna, who is your friend and how did she rescue me?”

“My husband, this is Juniper’s Daughter. She’s my friend and helps people like us. She’s a good soul. And we’re in her fantastic flying disc.”

“Wow, it’s like she was sent by God to help bring us back together. Kiss me my dear,” Liam said. He held his wife and welcomed her kiss. In his heart it was like yesterday when they had last kissed. A little later, Anna answered Liam’s questions. There were a lot of them.

Arriving at Anna’s island, the disc landed and the couple embarked. Juniper’s Daughter stayed aboard her craft. Goodbyes were said and she took off, on new missions doing who knew what. She promised to return soon. Anna and Liam made love inside her quaint stone cottage; there was no worry of infertility or of anyone coming to harm the couple. Finally there were together. How long would it be till someone else joined them? A third little person? The witch had left her positive legacy through words and actions, some of which Anna was aware of. Did she know that the witch had genetically modified her barren body, allowing her to bear children, even at forty five years of age, with alien genetic science? Maybe Anna was aware, she was happy being reunited with her lost love. They had a lot of catching up to do. Love could endure...

poems i read live

Natalie. War Woman

The Royal Navy ship filled Natalie's gun sight. She fired her 20mm cannons and pulled up, dropping her bombs. With a sickening jolt they fell free and Nat lowered her nose, weaving her jet, flying away from the large ship. Tracer fire and a single missile raced past her. A faint boom indicated her bombs had gone off. Did she sink the enemy ship?

It was fly for her life. Sea Harriers were inbound. Natalie cursed her government for starting this evil war, for putting her in harms way and for killing her friends. It’s partly my fault, her mind screamed. You wanted to fly, not to fight and kill or be killed. Silly girl! Suddenly a warning was shouted over the radio. More voices and then silence. A Sea Harrier had shot down an A-4. Who was hit?

Nat just about made it to the Hercules tanker. She shook with fear. When she landed, her flight suit was drenched in sweat. Two jets were missing. Natalie had damaged a destroyer and killed British personnel. She was physically sick. Her Skyhawk had eight small bullet holes in it and this was only her first mission. The Medical Officer gave her the okay and she attended debriefing.

The next few days were critical. British ships had to be sunk and people killed to defeat the English. It was obvious to all; this would be a bitter fight. Air power had to defeat sea power. Nat flew another mission with mixed results, learning to temper her fear and use her skills and new experience. She saw her cannon fire rake a destroyer but her bombs missed, exploding either side of the ship.

Her third mission was her last over the Malvinas. On the hills above the bay, enemy guns and missiles were getting more lethal every day. Never mind the ships’ weapons and marauding Sea Harriers. Losses were several planes each day. Nat’s time was finally up. She hit a Royal Navy destroyer, blowing a big hole in it with her thousand pound bomb. There were many killed. Natalie never saw the wounded English gunner firing a 20mm cannon when she sped ten metres overhead.

Exploding shells slammed into her A-4 and Natalie almost lost control. Desperately she pulled up, avoiding slamming into the black cold water. A 20mm shell blew her lower left leg off. By a miracle she never passed out, the pain was something else. Blood filled the cockpit. Right there, she wanted to die. No more pain. Not physical or mental over her Disappeared friends. One simple shove of the controls and the sea would claim her...

That year was the hardest for me, 1989.                                                                                                                                            Becoming 18.  Memories of what I’d done in my mind’s eye.
Did I really get her pregnant? Why am I in the job fixing cars when I hate it?
Why do I row with my mates? Feel so down?                                                                                                                       Music lifts me, made me who I am now in 2012.                                                                                                                   The Boardwalk was down the road from the garage I worked at.
His Latest Flame on there. Gal who runs the club said so.                                                                                                                         I was so happy, see them live. Would have been my most important gig.
Not to be!
They cancelled it. I was heart broken.                                                                                                                                                    Time moved on. I finally got their album in summer 2011.                                                                                                               Played it and thought back what I’d missed. It hit me again.
What could have been? Me, so young and alive, seeing the gals live. Which one would steal my heart? Their music touched my soul. Eclipsed by All About Eve in early November 89, gothic surrender.
Fate and chance put me in touch with Moira’s cousin. Tell her she did great songs I say.
And to Trish, hey I write too. But your songs are the best. May I use your words? I want to do them live as poems to share with everyone.
Maybe Trish and Moira will get back together and give me my gig? So many things have changed since 89 but so much remains the same. Years fall by too fast. 1987 to now, HLF only gets better.
From early second hand singles to now. What other band sang so poignantly about The Troubles? Yet they love like I do and feel joy and pain, mirror image here. Circle almost complete.
One day Moira sing…

BUNKER DOWN PANDA BOY

BUNKER DOWN PANDA BOY
Bob was an Albanian body builder. He lived in an old machine gun bunker made of concrete in a forest. He’s a ghost from a blood feud. Once he had been a hard bastard and body builder, now he was a randy spectre. Pito was Bob’s girlfriend; she lived in an abandoned red Fiat Panda hidden in a forest. The car would never run again but that didn’t matter; it was a knocking shop for ghostly fun, frolics and fucking. Like the couple, the car was a strange thing. Was it real?
Come on sweet soul mother fucker; come on sweet soul mother fucker! Come and sit on my face, let your pussy juice run over my lips and down my throat. Do it now my baby, my sweet soul mother fucker... Bob sang to himself, in his mind. He wasn’t alone in hearing this.
“Yo! Bob you big turtle; stop singing that lewd sexual song. I know it’s about me!” remonstrated Pito, frowning.
“Hey sis! I aint singing out loud. Am I?” replied Bob, looking hurt. Shit, she heard my thoughts!
“Damn right I did! My psychic link is strong, don’t forget,” shouted the girl, still annoyed.
“Well... okay, yes, I was singing about you, in my mind. I know you can hear my thoughts but some things are meant to be private. Like my thoughts, you know?”
“Your admission doesn’t make it okay to think and then sing about doing rude things to me. Yes, I can read your mind but that I can’t help. I am a psychic ghost, aren’t I?”
“I have my own mind and if I want to sing, in my head, I will. So deal with it okay?” grumbled the large Albanian body builder, reaching down to scratch his balls.
“Okay... look maybe I overreacted. Being dead aint too much fun you know?” said Pito, frowning again.
“I know. Look, we’re both dead, so let’s get used to it. We can’t change it, can we? In fact...” he answered.
“That’s obvious. I still remember very clearly, my death. I know we can’t change it,” replied the girl. “What were you about to ad, ‘In fact,’ what?”
“I remember my end also,” said Bob, looking into Pito’s eyes. “I meant this, ‘In fact come and sit on my face!’” explained the eighteen stone power lifter, flexing his upper body and smiling.
“You cunt! You really are a bastard, aren’t you Bob!” screamed Pito, going red in the face. Suddenly her anger slackened. She showed another side. “Okay, I’ll sit on your face. Even though we’re ghosts. We’ve fuck all else to do, have we?”
“Eh? You will?” stammered Bob, taken in by Pito’s sudden mood swing. Is she fucking with me? I better play along before she changes her mind.
“Lie down then, put your head there and your legs there,” indicated the red haired girl, pointing to the slope where they stood. Trees shielded them from the sun.
“Right then, I’m on it. Head at the top, legs facing down hill.”
“Get on with it then, before I change my mind!”
“Okay, okay! It does seem a bit bizarre, ghost sex!” he guffawed, kneeling and then lying down.
“Bizarre? I’ll give you bizarre, now get down!” Pito shouted, taking off her silver hot pants.
“Whoa! You’ve got no panties on!”
“That’s right, what did you think I wore? Huge granny knickers?”
“Erm... no, bareback commando is fine.”
Pito sat on Bob’s face. In his mind he started singing his ridiculous song, Come on sweet soul mother fucker; come on sweet soul mother fucker! Come and sit on my face, let your pussy juice run over my lips and down my throat. Do it now my baby, my sweet soul mother fucker...
It would be quite hard for him to sing with a nice peach shaped butt on his face, with a pussy over his mouth. Never mind licking pussy juice, from a ghost! Good job he could sing in his mond. Come on sweet soul mother fucker; come on sweet soul mother fucker! Come and sit on my face, let your pussy juice run over my lips and down my throat. Do it now my baby, my sweet soul mother fucker...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bob met his end in an Albanian blood feud with a neighbouring family. A brother in the enemy family had an affair with Bob’s sister, Puna. Bob didn’t approve of this and put a stop to it; the man who Puna was seeing was married. A word with his sister only made her more stubborn, digging her heels in and seeing the married man on the sly. Bob knew about this, he followed his sister when she went out on her forays to the married man. Her sneakiness wasn’t enough to keep the affair secret.
Bob waited behind a stone wall, hiding in the shadows. In his hand he carried a big twelve inch kitchen knife. Before him was a small house, where the married man and his sister were inside. What were they doing? Leaving his hiding place, Bob crept over to the front window. Very carefully he looked through a gap in the curtains. Fuck! I don’t believe it! Look what they’re doing!
A sight of upmost pleasure greeted the body builder. His hand tightened upon the knife as he watched. Squinting against the bright light, he spied his sister sucking the married man’s cock. Her head was moving up and down, making the man moan. The moans were faintly audible through the glass. I’m going to kill you, you enemy cunt! Just you wait!
And sat next to the enemy was his wife! It looked like she was in on the hideous affair! How was this possible? She was naked, like Puna was. Both ladies were giving pleasure to the man; this was obvious with the look of pleasure on his face and his moaning. His wife was grinning and tickling his balls!
“Fuck waiting, I’m going to do this now. I’ll kill that greasy fucker who de-flowers my sister!” muttered Bob, slowly standing up and making his way to the small wooden front door. Bob was going to kick the door in but he tried the brass handle first. It opened! The thick cunt hadn’t locked the door in his haste to get his rocks off! Silently opening the door, Bob went inside, into the dark hallway and shut the door. Controlling his breath, he listened for signs of discovery. There were none, the man kept moaning and one of the girls was laughing. It was now or never!
Locating the door, that led into the main room where the sex was taking place, Bob burst in and committed war. He screamed curses in Albanian, damning both his own sister and the married couple she was involved with. Knife at the ready, he swung into action. The surprise was total, no defence stopped him.
Pushing his sister aside, Bob aimed a knife blow at the man. His blow missed its intended target, the man’s throat but caught him in the chest. The blade sunk in three inches. Pulling it out, Bob stabbed him again. Falling on to the couch, the man was out cold. Slapping the wife, Bob was in control of the situation. “I asked you to stop this affair, what did you do? You continued to come here, didn’t you Puna?” whispered Bob. He was deadly serious. He said it again when Puna didn’t answer, she looked down at the wounded man who had been her lover.
“What do you care about me? You don’t even know me, Bob. Do you? What do you care?” Puna challenged, not caring she could be next.
Bob was silent now. He looked down at the bleeding man and at his sister. Anger filled his entire body and he couldn’t stop himself from acting. A red mist enveloped him; it was like a river of molten lava. He shouted and screamed, tears of rage ran down his face and his hands moved like a robot. In one hand he held a huge knife.
Puna held up her arms before her face to try and ward off the attack from her brother. It only delayed the inevitable. Her screams added to the confusion and bloodshed, for two minutes she vainly tried to fight back and defend her life. It was hopeless. Her brother knifed her twenty eight times and murdered her outright. Turning to the unconscious husband Bob kicked him to see if he was alive. Seeing him move and groan in pain, he finished him off with five knife thrusts to the chest. Blood flowed like a fountain. It was carnage.
The wife had been quietly crying while two people were butchered right next to her. It was she who stopped the last act, the murder of herself. She had a gold six inch hair pin holding her hair in place. Quickly reaching for it, she took Bob by surprise as he gloated over his main victim – her slain husband. His wife had her revenge. A single deep prick into Bob’s heart finished him. He was dead before he hit the floor. You evil man! That’s what you get for killing my husband and my friend. I hope you go to hell! thought the wife, anger engulfing her. Her name was Marsha. Now she was a widow, who took revenge upon her husband’s killer. A blood feud had been settled, old skool Albania way.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bob never went to hell. He haunted the earth, being stuck in the village where he lived his life till that fateful evil day. Pito was earthbound too, her story was a little different but just as bad.
Pito was a strong willed lady and always got her way. Until she met a man who was her match; this could only end badly, in trouble. Pito was born in a village over the hill from Bob, the fiery companion who she spent her time with. They were a good match; if a mortal person could see them they would think the body builder was the fiery aggressive one. In fact Bob was normally very placid but with a temper when riled. Both abided by their country’s blood feud rule, if a wrong was done it had to be avenged.
One day after her twenty-third birthday, Pito was hung over and making her way back from a friend’s house. Her head was heavy with alcohol and a huge banging headache, clouding her vision. She stumbled into an old man selling wooden carvings of churches and the Virgin Mary, upending his stall and contents. Small intricate carvings scattered this way and that. Pito tripped over one and fell. She landed heavily upon the man; he fell off his stool and ended up on the dirt roadside.
The old man cursed and pulled out an ornate knife. Looking down at his damaged carvings and then over at the girl, he acted. He gruffly said, “Now you’ll pay for that, ruining my business. Do you know how long it took to make those carvings? Do you, you fucking bitch?”
“Hey man, just chill out. I’m sorry. It was an accident,” replied Pito, trying to get up. She was on all fours when the man stabbed her in the leg. The blade bit deep. She fell back down and whimpered in pain, before recovering and kicked the old bastard in the face.
Her kick was enough; it propelled the man head first into a brick wall. With a thud, his head split open and he fell to the ground, with vacant eyes staring up to the sky, dead. His knife was by his side.
“Ah fuck! Look what you made me do, you old get. And you stabbed me, you actually stabbed me! Fuck!” shouted Pito, reaching over and picking up the knife. She kicked out again, this time sending half a dozen delicate carvings into the road, where a passing Audi gangster car drove over them and reduced them to splinters. Finally standing up, Pito fled the scene leaving a trail of blood from her leg wound. She wouldn’t be hard to find.
It was the wood carver’s son who found Pito. He heard about the death of his father, tried to track the blood trail but it petered out in the forest. This was no trouble; he was a trained tracker from his Albanian army training and knew how to do a grid search, till he got his quarry. Creeping up on Pito’s wooden shack that was her humble abode, he was prepared and ready for action. It was over in thirty minutes.
A Molotov cocktail tossed through the single dirty window was enough. The untreated old wooden structure went up like a bonfire, with her leg wound slowing her down the girl never got out. She burnt alive, ending another Albanian blood feud and evening up the scales. The normal exchange rate in this age old tradition of settling old scores in blood, one dead from each family to keep a tradition going, stretched back to medieval times. It was called a blood feud and was an evil thing.

Pito was sprawled out in her old abandoned Fiat Panda MK1 car in the forest. Bob was on top of her making love to his bad tempered bitch. She was a bit pissed off due to being dead. The front passenger seat was adjusted flat to allow the two ghosts to enjoy dead flesh pleasures.
Bob sang a song into Pito’s ear. “Come on sweet soul mother fucker; come on sweet soul mother fucker! Come and make love to me, let your tight pussy swallow my big cock. Do it now my baby, my sweet soul mother fucker...”
“If you sing that song again I swear, I’ll fucking kill you!” spat Pito, annoyed. She tried to bite Bob on the chin but missed.
“Nice try love,” he laughed. The song came again, “Come on sweet soul mother fucker; come on sweet soul mother fucker! Come and make love to me, let your tight pussy swallow my big cock. Do it now my baby, my sweet soul mother fucker...”
He thrust deep into Pito’s cunt, again and again. The car’s suspension rocked in this ghostly action. Was the car also a ghost? What was its history?
“You’re a real bastard Bob. Oh my, that feels so fucking good,” she whispered, enjoying the action.
“I know you love it bitch, I’m the best. The joys of being dead!”
“Yes, you cunt. You bound me to your side in that magic ritual and put a spell on me, damn you Bob! But you fuck so well.”
“I know, I know, Pito my bitch,” he grinned.
“Bastard!”
“Come on sweet soul mother fucker; come on sweet soul mother fucker! Come and make love to me, let your tight pussy swallow my big cock. Do it now my baby, my sweet soul mother fucker...” On and on shagging went, in a rusty red car in a forest in the Albanian wilderness. A quaint forest scene.
“Come on sweet soul mother fucker; come on sweet soul mother fucker! Come and make love to me, let your tight pussy swallow my big cock. Do it now my baby, my sweet soul mother fucker...” echoed through the car.
A man and his hunting dog walked past the rocking car. He didn’t stop to watch the steamy action or to listen to the bad song or female groans; nor did he laugh at the small car, rocking on its suspension due to the rampant pussy pumping. Zando the huntsman carried on walking, watching his dog and alert for any wild bore that would make a nice roast meal. His gun rested upon his shoulder. These two ghosts, three including the car, were stealth ghosts. Nothing and no one could see or sense them.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Back in 1986, the red 750cc Fiat Panda was involved in a bad crash. Driving conditions on Albania’s roads were amongst the worst in Europe and five people died that awful day. Hitting a lorry head on and spinning off the road into the forest, the car was a ghost! Strangely, none of the five people killed in the Fiat were ghosts. It was the actual car that haunted the forest.
Pito was a ghost with no home except her run down wooden shack, which was now a burnt out shell. The nearby village was full of ghosts, from other blood feuds, gang wars or accidents. She didn’t want to fight them or even be near them, no the forest was her haunt and the car her home.
One day when exploring the forest, she saw something shimmering in the trees. Thinking it was the sun, she rubbed her eyes. At first she saw nothing. On walking closer, she saw more shimmering and then a car appeared! Wide eyed and swearing in disbelief, Pito knew what it was. A ghost car! She guessed correctly that it had crashed off the distant road and rolled down the hillside, into the tree lined valley and a very remote area. Up above on the hill ran the Adriatic Highway. Did she know the real smashed car and bodies had been lifted out by helicopter?
Trying the driver’s door, she found it opened easily. She sat inside and immediately felt at home. This is so cool! It can be my new home; I can sleep and live in here. A ghost car, no mortal will see it and the ghost from the town won’t be interested in this little car. They’ll want German gangster cars, like Audis and Mercs, she happily thought.
No more roaming the forest with no home other than sleeping under trees, for this blue eyed Albanian lady!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bob lived in one of the old machine gun bunkers that dotted the countryside. There were over one and a half million small gun bunkers in Albaia, each made to accommodate two men with a machine gun and ammo. A firing slit gave good fire and each town or city was surrounded by these concrete emplacements.
Built at huge cost in labour and money, the bunkers were now a part of the natural landscape, still waiting for a war with Serbia that never came. A monument to the past and what was before.
After he had been killed, Bob haunted the town for three months but he was forced out of his new home by a local gangster mob. They took over his small one bedroom apartment in the centre of town. The human inhabitants of the apartment never even knew it was haunted. He still frequented the town because he liked it and missed the action. Who was fighting or fucking who. The gangsters couldn’t force him out of the town, just his home, they weren’t strong enough to banish him permanently and he couldn’t be killed, Bob was already dead!
Finding the dozen or so abandoned bunkers in the forest, he picked one that was furthest into the trees. No one cared for them now, the trees weren’t cut back to give a clear field of fire and people weren’t bothered about a war with Serbia anymore.
There was something about the rough concrete, natural setting and aura of a war that never came which Bob liked. It reminded him of the ghosts, stuck on earth and unwanted by anyone. He, himself, was unwanted. That is, until he found Pito asleep in her Panda car in the trees.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“What the fuck?” muttered the muscled body builder. Walking closer, he saw a girl asleep in the car.
He never realised she was a ghost, in a ghost car. He tapped on the window. When nothing happened, he knocked harder. This time she woke up. And screamed, then mouthed every obscenity there was in the Albanian language, at the intruder who woke her up.
“Hi, I’m sorry to wake you. Please don’t be mad at me,” Bob commented. He was aware how silly he sounded and looked. Eighteen stone of prime muscle, being humble.
The girl was suddenly silent and stared at Bob, now seeing him for the first time. Really seeing him.
“Hell, you’re a ghost. A real ghost just like me,” Pito said. Unsure if he could hear him, she opened the door and allowed him to come closer. She said it again.
“Hi. I just saw you asleep in your car and wondered who you were. How did you drive all this way into the forest? The road is hundreds of yards away, up the mountain,” he said.
“Hi... did you not hear me? I’m a ghost. I’m dead, like you are. I never drove this little car into the forest, it’s a ghost car too,” explained the girl, as if she was talking to a child.
“Oh, right. I didn’t realise, I’m sorry. Yes, I guess I am a ghost. I’m Bob anyhow.”
“Right. Nice to meet you. I’m Pito. This car is my home and I live in the forest, as you can see.”
“Alright. You must like the solitude and being out in nature. I live in a small machine gun bunker, about a mile north of here,” Bob commented, pointing into the trees.
Pito thought for a bit. “Yes, being here is nice and no one bothers me. Not even the local hunters can see me, nor their gun dogs sense me. I find that odd but its fine for me.”
“So you don’t ever go into the town then? Myself, I like to go cos I like the place,” muttered Bob, thinking. “You know, it’s strange why the dogs can’t sense us, you know, cos we’re ghosts. We must be stealth ghosts!”
“No, I hate the town. I died near there, I never want to go near that fucking shithole again!” shouted Pito, angry now. “And who gives a fuck about dogs?” she added.
“Okay, I’m sorry for reminding you. Please be calm. May I join you? I get very lonely, out here alone,” Bob honestly said looking down at the leaf littered ground.
Sighing, Pito leant over and opened the passenger door. She watched Bob walk round the car and get in. I wonder what he’s like at fucking? He sure is a big guy, must’ve been a body builder when he was alive. He seems quite nice actually...
Bob struggled to fit his huge body into the small front passenger seat. With difficulty, he closed the door and looked over to Pito. He sensed her thoughts and knew she liked him but also that she had a temper to be feared. That made him wary.
“Don’t piss me off!” she said, confirming his suspicions. Obviously, she could read his mind!
“I won’t, I promise,” Bob lied.
“Okay, you better not. I’m serious!” she growled.
Come on sweet soul mother fucker; come on sweet soul mother fucker! Come and sit on my face, let your pussy juice run over my lips and down my throat. Do it now my baby, my sweet soul mother fucker... Bob sang to himself, in his mind. He wasn’t alone in hearing this and he prepared for the storm to come. What the hell had he gotten himself into? I’ll have to use a magic spell to bind her to my side...

varied old poems, some maaaad lol

WEATHER FROM HELL

Friday was warm all 75 degrees, just like summer.
We went out and got drunk – what a night we had.
Out in only jeans and t-shirt it was that warm.
Now over the bank holiday the rain came down for three days.
I said what will happen tomorrow. Will we have 12 feet of snow?
Well, it is snowing now and getting worse. Don’t blame me,
I only asked the questions. Now it’s the turn of hail to fall,
to pound the earth into submission.

TURKISH EXPERIENCE

Arrive tired but with expectations going crazy –
“Is this it, are we here?”
Dawn comes as we get to the hotel
as breakfast is served but not for us,
so we hit the sack.
The week flies by, a crazy hassle
of barmen and traders
“You like leather jacket?”
Now amazed by ancient temples and shaken
by an earth tremor we are learning to relax
in the warm June sun..
There’s a week left now,
all the days are precious
with so many moments to be enjoyed.
Just imagine what else we will see.

KNACKERED OLD TRANSIT

It’s had its share of fun as my old transit.
For ten years it’s carried me about with a load
of lumber here, there and everywhere.
There’s holes in the bodywork and the back springs
have gone, but this is still my van in all its rusty glory.
Sooner or later I’ll have to get another one that is brand
spanking new, with digital stereo, airbag and alarm.
Will this last ten years and be as reliable as my old trany?

NINE

1,2,…8,9 glowing sunsets turn the horizon liquid gold.
Each one a manmade sun, a sight that God would behold.
Such is the awesome beauty in the death
of nine million people in as many seconds.
This is man’s power, so destructive in his ways
that he is almost like a God. But unlike God,
man can only destroy himself and his world.

CEILING ROSE

An alabaster ceiling rose is ever so delicate,
a round swirling pattern that is a joy to look at.
It used to be white but now it’s all yellow
with centuries of grime and age old smoke.
People stop and wonder what went on under
the hanging lights, what was said, who loved
who and who dared to dance close.
Today the huge dance hall is empty
and the ceiling rose and lights have nothing
but a sound of silence for company.

QUEEN OF HEARTS

The country and the world have been brought to its knees
through mourning. A princess has died, it’s such a waste.
She was Princess Diana, the Queen of hearts taken
so tragically from us. No one can replace
the loss, for she was truly unique.
Slowly the pain will heal
but the sense of loss never will.
Our hearts go out to you, Diana.
Rest in peace.

OLDHAM TOWN

It’s a town full of all types of people –
bums, alkies, druggies and thugs.
There is a type of person to suit everybody
and the local pubs are full of them.
Take a trip down Yorkshire Street
to Yates and No 62’s and there are dickheads
galore all wearing designer jeans
and silk shirts acting hard.
The women aren’t much better
with gym slip mums and flat slags
who are yours for the price of a drink.
This is Oldham, our glorious northern town.

MOONRISE

MOONRISE

I see a faint lightness over the black of the hillside.
Stars a million miles overhead lose a slight edge.
Mist dances illuminated by her Moon Goddess.
Clouds high overhead come and go as stars sparkle, iridescent.
Excited I wait, soon she will be here. Patience now…
There! My Moon Goddess lifts my spirits, serene and spiritual.
I drift out of my body, to be up there, free and timeless.
So frail and fragile. Let me take your face in my hands.
Embrace you in your crystal disc, a horizon before me.
Reverie is mine, a memory forever bound by your love and grace.
Moonrise my dear…

Natalie. Forsaken .

Natalie. Forsaken
What They did to Nat's three friends was terrible. Abducted by the authorities in the middle of the night, taken against their will and ending their young existence. Hours of torture to get any info, put onto a plane and then...

Filipe was lying in his mother's arms. A caring embrace. No bond was stronger than a mother's and her child. Especially Catholic. Soon it would be time for his bed time story, after his nap...

Suddenly Filipe was jerked violently awake, his drug induced dream history. A huge noise over came him and he was so cold.  No sight. What? He was blindfolded and his limbs were bound. What was happening? Waves of unconscious started to drag him under again.

He was aware of men shouting and someone kicked him in the side. It didn't hurt due to the drugs. Before he passed out Filipe felt hands drag him to the noise and a feeling of flying engulfed the young political protestor, then swirling blackness claimed him. The drugs kicked in before the freezing ocean smashed his frail body.

Many perished this way. They were The Disappeared and were shot or drugged and thrown out of aircraft into the ocean, far from land. Filipe and his two female friends were only three among one thousand who were murdered this way, along with tens of thousands more who perished...

slightly edited version on display at red cross Disappeared art event, in red cross building, beswick st, ancoats manchester. aug29/30.
