CITY UNDER THE SEA

CITY UNDER THE SEA

Thousands of years ago there stood a huge prosperous city on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.
Sea level was lower then and the ocean was smaller and less deep. Over the years the sea level rose, covering and drowning this magnificent place.
Many people tried to stay to ride out the storm but the flood of water became deeper and deeper until it was too late – underwater.
Some escaped by boat to nearby islands and coastlines but most drowned, killed in the unpredictable waters. The highest honour?
Today, two hundred metres down and five miles offshore lie the ancient ruins long lost from view, still standing.
Roads lead to a central square, to deeper water and smaller villages, now unknown places.

A place forgotten but by a dozen men, descendants of their drowned forefathers, long ago.
