Jelma told them of their frantic flight from China and
how they almost didn't make it. She went into detail, from the idea of how to
get back home, taking their own plane and the almost deadly chase over the sea.
Not a person spoke while Jelma described this. Three hundred silent people. There
tears in her eyes and Chen held her close. He spoke quietly, adding his
experiences.
Finally Jelma said it, "Our leaders here in Japan,
and Chen's leaders in China, started this war over some small island on a map.
Before only a few people knew where they were. Now everyone knows because of
this stupid war. Young men and women, the best of our youth, along with China,
fight one another. A lot have been killed like the F-15 Eagle pilot who tried
to shoot Chen and I down. Many more have been shot down, killed in ships or
landing on the islands. This needs to stop. Right now, before anyone else is
killed or wounded. Those dead service men and women are someone's wife or husband,
daughter or son. If I can marry my husband Chen, who's from China, our nation's
can live peacefully together. To our leaders, I urge you, stop this war
now!"
