introducing JUNIPER'S DAUGHTER by Nick Armbrister

Juniper’s Daughter

Juniper’s Daughter was born out of the primeval fires that formed Planet Earth before all life existed; she was as old as time itself and gained such understandings of life, death and rebirth from the beginning of her existence. She was born from her Mother Juniper who existed from a time even before her daughter, before the stars were born, from the time before when there was only blackness. At first nothing existed, in the aeons before the Big Bang. After this, energy fields formed and matter came into existence, nothing more than atoms grouped together. Infinitely slowly they formed something that was more than nothing. Over time stars formed with their accompanying planets, huge balls of swirling gas took shape, forming, cooling and gaining an atmosphere of gas – evil noxious clouds of dangerous chemicals. In this mix something more happened, chemical reactions gave birth to something more than a reaction, something occurred, early magic occurred and life was born. This was one aspect of Juniper’s Daughter; she had no body or sex just an existence, an energy pattern coming into focus just as her Mother had done at an earlier time. Her role was to look after the new world being created, what was to become Planet Earth, out of the darkness came life and Juniper’s Daughter was an extension of Juniper, who herself had kept the darkness at bay. When the lava cooled and the nasty atmosphere of base gases changed, early life came into being; over billions of years a planet became green and blue and the miracle of being in the right place at the right time. Any further from the Sun and the planet would be an icy ball, any nearer, a scorched cinder.
As life became more advanced Juniper’s Daughter worked in conjunction with humankind, for she was an extension Mother Nature (who was Juniper, her mother), all powerful and giver of life. Humankind became greedier using and abusing the planet and themselves; Juniper’s Daughter had to step in so many times to try to help and guide people to keep away from the Devil’s path, for he was the mortal enemy of everything that she represented. He was death, evil, manipulation, murder, killing, rape, violence, war and a hundred other bad things of varying degrees. She was life, rebirth, forgiveness, hope, love and so many more in equal opposite to Him, Satan.
Juniper’s Daughter had lived many times before since early people walked the earth, she had been killed and murdered and committed suicide more times that she would have liked. This was part of her role as a supreme being who walked the earth striving to stop evil and keep the balance amongst all things. She was skilled in negotiations to stop violence, had excellent magical powers, she was connected to her folk memory of her past selves to delve into the knowledge and power to deal with any situation. She was a dangerous fighter and had a capability to show no mercy when this was needed, when confronting soldiers of the Devil who knew they were committing evil acts. She would strike these down if she had no other option, if there was no chance of negotiation or if she was in mortal danger. Over the years and lifetimes her skills grew, she was reborn at random times after her death, many of these lives were over quickly and in others she didn’t have enough time. Yet she never gave up and always continued her work, her sole calling before her own personal gratification and happiness.
As a lover she knew no competition, she was the best there was and men of all ages and faiths and jobs wanted her, a few were lucky enough too, even with women Juniper’s Daughter was of great experience. Having an open mind was one of her positive points along with being loving, caring, kind and compassionate, she was not the evil one, she was life, death, birth and rebirth; she was everything.
In human form she was now on earth again doing her work and her Mother’s wishes, helping the needy and the wretched, stopping evil and the Devil doing his dastardly deeds. She was always busy but never unhappy, often sad over the wickedness of Mankind’s actions when he waged war and killed for no reason, she was happy when a new baby was born and when a tree came into bloom. She was celebrated in poetry and song and verse and in literature and in magic, she was never ending without beginning, she was Juniper’s Daughter who had lived a thousand, a million times before and would do so again.
Now she was blond and had stunning blue eyes like a mountain pool, deep and full of life and secrets and hidden mystery waiting to be found. Every man wanted to be her lover, quite a few were honoured to be and then there were the women. She was a celebratory not wanting the fame but just to work and be creative, an opposite of being destructive. She did her best and had done so much before now, this moment in time. But she could remember everything as if it was yesterday, for hers was a folk memory connected to herself and her past lives and her sisters and her Mother. She needed all of her skills to stop the Devil and his actions of taking over the weak minds of men and their fragile world, turning it into ashes and darkness. Yet she knew everything was in a cycle and she would only be successful for so long, that light would only shine for a short time before darkness came and snuffed it out like a million lives in a single breath. She was a warrior when the situation demanded and had killed thousands of people, in battle to preserve herself and to protect her minions and subjects – the innocent from tyranny and oppression and communism. Also, she was able to end the life or the mortally wounded by giving mercy, a swift passage to the other side and into eternal peace. This was the bit of the job she didn’t like but it was a necessary act to do, she did this without hesitation overcoming her personal feelings instantly.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A novel on war, witchcraft, scifi, fantasy, sex, death and hope. About the conflict between a group of young people who are freedom fighters, living by law of the gun, who face an army of immense power. Set after a major conflict in the near future. Who will win? Based in an alternate England after civil war and a European war. A shady mystical figure, Juniper's Daughter, is added to the mix to give a nail biting no holds barred but sentimental story of a great what if? With real characters including Sarah, a skilled warrior woman deeply troubled by her past and her friend John, her brother in battle. From the use of military weapons to raunchy erotic scenes set in the background of total war, this book is something very different. Watch out for the follow up.

A novel following up Juniper's Daughter The Final War by Nick Armbrister. In a world full of violent gangsters, secret intelligence operatives, a shady witch called Juniper's Daughter, dark Goths and many other erotic characters, all are set for a showdown with the much vaunted English Army who is intent on invading and wiping them all out. The war rages on and the struggle continues in a world where poodle dogs have laser beam eyes and machine guns fire nuclear bullets. Science fiction meets the near future in this raunchy tough story of madness and dark humour. Set in a ficticious town called Renford in a war ravaged land, this story is an intimate look at one version of the future. Will people be nice to one another or will the Devil and death sweep the land?

random poems from my free ebook poem download

MR PALMER’S TRACTOR

“Eeh lad, I’ve had this ’ere tractor sixty-eight years and it still runs strong.”
Well, Mr Palmer, it sure sounds fine from here, just listen to that big old engine.
I think that everyone should have one so they can sit on the hard metal seat,
wearing a flat cap and say what fun it is.
With big fat wheels at the back there is no place it can’t go.
Everyone envies Mr Palmer’s old antique tractor – they say,
“’ere comes Mr Palmer on his little Nelly. Eeh, God bless them both.”

COLOURS

A dozen fragile dots of green lift up from the earth to soar up into the blue.
Climbing higher and higher in great steep spirals they chase a hundred silver blobs shimmering under the yellow summer sun, in the deep blue viridian blue.
Red suns of burning fire cling to the dancing green shapes as if not to fall off.
When green meets silver it’s for a fleeting moment that sometimes ends in a huge yellow flash, often both colours are no more.
The silver blobs leave huge white gossamer trails across the heavens,
a trail of water vapour challenging the green dots with their might: come and get me!

ALL ALONE

The pussycat remembers back to only yesterday
when she used to run and chase her feline friend.
But that’s just a sad memory now as she sits all alone
and remembers what had once been.
Years of fun and enjoyment ended abruptly
after the car mercilessly killed Tigger.
Now pining little Chocolate Drop
has no friend, only pain.

FIREFLY

Take off is at dawn just as the sun is on the horizon, we climb through the warm air, our planes turning to fireflies in the new day’s light.
This is our moment of glory as we turn to eagles and become one with the sky.
Levelling off we go in search of the enemy. Though we cant see them they will be here, waiting and watching ready to pounce. There! Out of the sun at tremendous speed they come.
In a second the fight is joined; already a turning plane dies as it explodes to fire and burns as bright as the sun.
Round and round they go as the fate of our nation is decided in the air, a surreal dance of man and machine.

CLARKY

My mate Clarky is quite a star, he looks like a convict and walks like a pirate.
His legs ain’t pot though they’re riddled with arthritis and his ball sacks are full ’cause the women move too fast for him.
Everyone who knows him gets out of the way to escape his grouchy moods and short temper.
This is Mark, mankind’s crazy one-off, a Park Cakes special.

MUSTINESS

The musty smell of the old pub fills the air.
It reminds me of an old house –
how many people have lived, loved and laughed?
It reminds me of an old bus –
how many people have journeyed,
have missed deadlines through
delays, have dreamed.
All that is old, all that is mustiness.

JUNIPER’S DAUGHTER - FRAGMENTED WHOLE/BLACK LENSE

a few extracts out of my short story/poetry collection

JUNIPER
The three great tribes were at war, many hundreds of people had perished in the huge conflict. It wasn’t clear who would win. It could easily end up with only three men remaining, each a warrior of the warring tribes. After that, there would be no one left. Juniper had let the war go on long enough, now she had to act. If not, she would be guilty of letting the slaughter get out of hand. The tribal warriors had killed and been killed enough times, their lesson had been learnt. It was time to stop the killing. She picked the strongest tribe to be the fulcrum of the event.
Juniper was always earthbound, doing her roles of healer, witch and warrior woman. She was divinely worshipped as a Mother Goddess of fertility and a dozen other things. Her battle skills were equal to her life giving skills; she needed to fight to defeat her stubborn opponents when her magic wouldn’t work. Skilled in arcane arts, she was a spell weaver and magician of supreme power. Her hands could give life and take it away. Her crystals were her magical key and her bows and arrows were her life taker. A weapon she crafted herself and used with deadly efficiency. Dressed in animal skins, Juniper was an athletic figure of intelligence and emotions. She understood herself, her world and her subject. There was nothing she didn’t know. Experience taught her everything and knowledge was her key in winning her battles against the darkness. Dark energy balanced out the light side and goodness, like the day replacing the night. Such was Stone Age life in what would become Europe many eons later.
She could travel by foot, silently and stealthily, to surprise her enemies and bring them to heel. Or she was able to travel instantly from one place to another by using her magic power channelled through her crystal wand. This was a skill she used sparingly, early humans were very superstitious and their fear of the witch could overcome their desire to be led. Moving from place to place, the witch did her job. When the war broke out, this threatened to undo her previous efforts at keeping the peace and healing. She had to act now.

Overlooking the flat plain on two sides, the low hills gave whoever held them command of the area. They were occupied by the stronger tribe called the White Spears. Their enemies were living uneasily side by side on the grasslands below, often fighting one another or attempting to take the high ground. Many warriors were killed in these forays. The coming battle would decide the issue of who kept the hills and also the low ground; there was a danger the two opposing tribes would be wiped out by the stronger enemy. Could Juniper stop this? She crept up the hill, keeping low to blend into the metre tall wild grass. Her bow and arrow were ready to be used in anger. With her senses keyed up, she was ready for anything; this was her time. Up ahead she saw camp fires and heard voices, several warriors were on guard and would be armed. Slowly she advanced.
In the White Spear camp a warrior named Nian held his spear to his chest. His weapon shone in the firelight. He hadn’t killed a man yet but he had been involved in several skirmishes with the tribes on the flatlands. It was a matter of time before he got his first kill and became a seasoned warrior veteran, one of the men. Then he could claim a wife and build his own dwelling for his family. He itched for war and to kill an enemy, he felt it in his veins; they ran hot with a lust for action that often overwhelmed him. Nian wanted to go down the hill alone and wipe his enemies out all by himself. His warrior elders warned him not to do this, he would be cast out of the tribe and be an enemy himself. There were ways of doing things. Just then, he saw movement in the grass, past the flames of the dying fire. He instinctively knew something or someone was there. Maybe an enemy or a wild beast. He judged the distance and threw his white spear into the grass where he saw movement. His sleek two metre spear arced out and into the grass. A scream of pain was Nian’s reward. He got up and ran to the grass, shouting to his brethren to join him, that there was an enemy in their midst.
Juniper had fucked up; she moved too close to the edge of the camp and was spotted. The spear caught her in her thigh. It was a bad wound and bled profusely. She knew she was beaten before her battle had begun and this changed everything. Suddenly there were figures standing before her, towering over the grass, shouting and pointing. Before she passed out, she felt them roughly lifting her and taking her to their camp. Mercifully she felt no more pain. Juniper never even got a single arrow off.

HIS LATEST FLAME/FUGITIVE

Feel like a fugitive in my own
life,

kind of use to it and enjoy it.

Filling the gap where your life and love should be.

Do you know how fucking alone I am

now?

That doesn't matter.

My views go to ink, captured in my

poems.

What will you think when you read

it?

I know you exist, somewhere.

If you didn't, I'd be totally

alone.

Like now.

What if you don't exist and I'm wrong in believing that you do exist and you actually yearn to be
with me?
What if I chose to leave
here?
My
choice.
No one can stop me.
Someone should save
me.
But who?

You? An unnamed angel?

My latest flame?

Dark delicious pull of you being too late tugs at
me,
like gravity at a comet passing a gas giant. A cataclysm.
No worries.

Pathways to where?

I had it all before, a caring witch wife, bakery job, car, holiday a year.
That was fifteen years
ago.
Why do I wish I had it now, not then?

Was I young and innocent back then?
My life, so back to
front.

If you do exist, I promise to wait for you, for a
while.
And when I'm gone,
you'll follow me and we'll be together
forever,
even though I don't know your name.
You wanted me to wait for you
forever.

I need you now.

Oh how Goth.

His latest flame dying now....
