Three Tears and One Kiss: Dark Romance Stories extract

Sexy Independence

Katie wanted to have some fun. She thought about what she could do, where to go and who with. It was Friday night and she was getting ready for her night out. How long had it been since her last one? Too long, a voice in her head complained! Enough is enough, for tonight she was going to party even though she was on her own because her friends were busy working or with their boyfriends. She opened her wardrobe to look at her outfits. There were so many to choose from.
She glanced left and right taking in her many different items of clothing, three-dozen different colours and styles all thrown together like a school of fish in a crystal pond, dancing before her eyes. What to wear? A nice lilac trouser suit cut in the latest fashion, a denim mini skirt with matching pink vest top, a black long leather skirt with a split all the way up to the left thigh and silver bra top. So many outfits, all hot looking. Katie was a real looker who got the boys attention.
Catching a glimpse of herself in the mirror on the back of the door, she stopped pawing at her outfits to look at herself, what a sight she was! Five foot five, slim build, red shoulder length hair hanging loose, blue crystal eyes, freckles all over her lithe sexy body, a little cheeky smile and lovely small titties with button nipples and brown aureoles, not too big. Not forgetting a neat trimmed pubic bush, trimmed every month and shaved once a year at Xmas.
Distraction over, it was back to the clothes. That one! A cool pink top that read “English Princess” with a stylised George Cross underneath and pair of smart black jeans. My nice long legs will look erotically provocative in those. Every curve, muscle and shape will be visible, not to mention my wicked arse, Katie laughed to herself. She got her clothes ready, placing them neatly on her bed. It was time for a shower. Katie headed to the bathroom and grabbed a big towel on the way called a bath sheet. It had a wonderful picture of Big Ben on it from her trip to London a few months previously. Turning the water on, she let it warm up. Feeling the tepid temperature by hand, she pulled a face when the water wasn’t right. Katie wasn’t a patient lady and wanted everything right now, this bloody moment, to hell with waiting! I’ve got my life to live, places to go, parties to attend and men to chase, I’ll wait for things when I’m old and in an old peoples home!!
She pranced out of the bathroom to put the radio on; her new slim line state of the art digital radio was worth two hundred quid, it was a real beauty. BBC Radio One blasted out of the speakers a little too loud, the bass on full but it was okay, her neighbours knew how much Katie liked her music. She would flash her wicked smile and everything would be all right. Sara Cox was doing her music show playing a Fat Boy Slim remix that thudded and thumped in a crazy pulse of happiness. Katie danced once around her living room and returned to the bathroom. Yes the shower’s just right now, she felt the hot water flowing over her upturned face and smiled to herself, tonight was going to be a good night. Who would she meet tonight?
After her refreshing shower Katie slowly got changed, listening to more dancey tunes that Sara spun on the turn table. What a good DJ she was, day dreamed Katie. She should come and have a girly night out with me! Who knew what they would both get up to?
A bit of rose blusher was the only make up she wore, her youthful looks gave her a model’s complexion so she didn’t need lots of expensive make up. Even in twenty years Katie would be youthful just like her lost mother. What a bind it must be fighting male admirers off half your age, she laughed, really missing her mum who sadly passed away two years ago to cancer.
After changing Katie looked at herself in the mirror. A voice came to her. "You'll do!" just what her mum used to say. Well, what a nice lady I look, she thought, time for the pub. Radio off, lock the door, here I go to the Red Lion, a traditional English pub on the corner by the church yard on the main street in Lees Village in Lancashire. Walking in Katie took in the clientele; every male eye was on her. She shyly smiled and walked to the bar. Eying up the ale, she made a choice: "A half pint of Newton Court Perry please," she asked the middle aged barman. Out of the corner of her eye she saw movement; a man walked over to her.
He said in a warm voice, “Here, let me buy that for you.”
Looking over at the man, Katie quickly looked him up and down in less time than it took to stroke a pussycat. She agreed, “Thanks.”
The stranger added, “And the same for me please but a pint of it,” to the barman.
Locking eyes, Katie blushed ever so slightly. Noticing this, the guy smiled, “I'm Nigel. It's great to meet you.”
Katie nodded thanks for the drink, replying, “I'm Katie.”
“Nice to meet you on this lovely spring day. I must say you look very pretty, a real English Princess,” Nigel complimented Katie, who smiled happily at his honest compliment.
“Thank you Nigel. Shall we sit down?” she replied.
“Yes lets sit over there by the window, it’s a good table with a nice view,” Nigel agreed. They casually walked over to an oak table with matching chairs near the large open bay window and sat down to enjoy their drinks. A small silence descended as the duo decided what to say while enjoying the happy feeling of not being alone on this glorious spring day. A gentle breeze whispered through the opening, refreshing them both. Nigel spoke, breaking the spell, “You know, I was going to stay in but my friend talked me into going to the pub. He ended up letting me down and I was on my own, I was going to go home but before I did I saw you…”

ENGLISH GOTH

Diane was no ordinary English lady. She was a Goth, one with the night, who loved what she was into. It was her life and nothing came close to it, not even guys who she frequently met in her young twenty-four years. She lived in the historical English town of Langford in the north of England. Not a big place, large enough for people not to know her business. Diane was a private gal with red and black hair that was visually- oh so beautiful! Diane worked in the local printing factory making blueprints for missiles, a topic that bored her. The cash was good, allowing her to go out, be footloose and fancy-free. That suited her. On a Monday, Diane went to the Right Drunkard Club that had dance night.
She liked gothic music from England’s past. Bands like the Cult, the Mission, All About Eve, the Sisters of Mercy, Ghost Dance and much more. Diane was into 80’s Goth music and believed she was born at the wrong time. She’d always wanted to see her favourite bands live, back from when they were young and vibrant, but that was life and she had no other choice to enjoy the music today.
Wearing a stunning short black number of sensually flowing fabric, layered with sequins and embroidered black flowers, Diane showed off her shapely bare legs well above the knee. When she sat down, she chose a table near the balcony bar that overlooked the dance floor on the lower level. Here, she got a good view of many guys and gals dancing and jiving to the best 80’s alternative music in the world.
A heavy pulsating rhythm bumped out of the speakers. Diane found herself nodding her head slowly back and forth and singing along to a song that spoke of a failed romance, of loneliness and death. Yet the song’s rhythm was uplifting and a heady rush was rising inside her. She lifted her Bloody Mary drink to her lips and took a generous mouthful, feeling the alcohol rush into her body to the point of warming her up. She’d finish this drink then dance and enjoy the rush of the music overtaking her as it did the other dancers who were having the best time of their lives. Without giving it much thought, she downed her drink and got up to join the dancers, making her way down the dark winding stairs towards the dance floor. When Diane got there the record changed to a heavier song with a loud bass line, a screaming guitar and very loud vocals. She danced around, waving her arms up to the beat. This song wasn’t for them, she thought happily to herself.
“This song is for me!” she screamed to anyone who might hear and despite the noise, some people acknowledged her. Others left the floor for her to take over and she was in her element. Diane felt so alive in a place where she belonged, every nerve ending pulsed with positive energy. Bumping into a lad who turned to look and smile, she gently held his arm before he moved out of reach and brought him towards her. The rhythm of the music gave them all a life of its own. She faced the boy who was about eighteen and pulled him towards her so they were touching. Smiling mischievously Diane kissed him slowly, her tongue passing his delicate pale lips probing inside to meet his tongue. He closed his eyes and melted into her.  She supported his weight and closed her eyes, enjoying the moment while the song now pounded in a slow mesmerising beat.
All of a sudden, the song faded out while the couple was still kissing in their close embrace. A new faster guitar driven track came over the speakers as the DJ spun the discs. In response, the boy pulled away withdrawing his tongue from Diane’s to end their coupling and find his friends. Or at least, that’s what Diane thought. Stupefied, Diane almost didn’t know where to go from where she was, standing alone in a place full of people. She turned and slowly walked in a wavy line over the dance floor in the other direction. When she got to the lower level of the bar to buy a drink, she swore she still tasted the teenager’s mouth on her warm moist lips.
Looking up and down the bar she made eye contact with the barman and ordered a Screwdriver, double vodka and fresh orange juice with ice in a half pint glass. Paying and thanking him, she walked around the club, which was rapidly filling up with happy young customers. She couldn’t help herself from smiling. Diane kept walking around the club checking the talent out, still wanting to score. It had been three long weeks since she’d been naughty and not made love to anyone.
Tonight she wanted it more than ever, with a nice man who was like her - a Goth. One of the dark ones who lived in a twilight world of long shadows and poignant music would suit her. If only he wasn’t so hard to find, she thought to herself. It was then she saw him, standing by a stone pillar watching people dance to the loud music. Unaware that he was being watched, the hunter became the hunted.
Diane walked over, taking a few sips of her strong drink, feeling the alcohol rush to her head, warming her insides and taking her to new heights. She wasn’t shy and out on her own like many other nights. Quicker than she could change her mind, desire taunted her. She was going to be more forward than she was used to, with lesser worries and hardly any proper introductions. Here we go!
Diane stood next to the man who was still watching the dance floor from where he was. She moved closer as the music kept playing. “I’m Diane.”
“Dark Princess of the night, Diane. Nice to meet you,” replied the tall dark stranger as he turned to his right to look at the gothic beauty standing next to him, who blushed ever so slightly. He noticed and smiled reassuringly so she wouldn’t turn and run in embarrassment.
“And nice to meet you-” Diane left a pause because the man hadn’t said his name. “I’ve not seen you here before,” she finished.
“Oh, I’m Liam, sorry, I’m always doing that! And yes I’ve just moved to town, just two weeks ago really. I missed last month’s Goth night here due to that. I must say, I’m enjoying it!” Liam said over the loud music. He opened his arms and motioned to the dance floor that was full of people. “It’s a good club isn’t it? I’ve been into this music for many years, probably before you were born!” he happily joked about his age.
Diane went even redder, thinking to herself if she was doing the right thing by making an approach to an older man. It was too late now! She managed a smile. “Wow, that long? How did you have known that? I could be a young looking thirty-five as far as you know.”
“Well my dear Diane, age is only a number and I don’t mind how old you are ’cause you look stunning and you’re a real Gothic Queen, really you are. I can tell you like this music and you’re not just one of the hangers who just look the part.”
“I love this music. All of the 80’s Goth music and some metal, besides the ones in this club give me thrills. I have many of the albums and I’ve even seen some bands when they performed a few years ago. Have you been to any gigs?”
“Oh yeah, Diane I’ve been to many gigs. I’ve lost count of how many, but must’ve been over a thousand gigs over my years. Both small bands and big bands, even one band that did one show before splitting up. Maybe I should write a book on it someday.” Liam reminisced, looking into space, no doubt, he must’ve been remembering those heady times.
“Hey, do you wanna dance or are you gonna stand there all night? Come on!” Diane insisted grabbing Liam’s hand as he still thought about the old days and its gigs.
He followed her through the crush of people dancing and swaying this way and that on the packed floor when a new track started to play, a stomping drum machine pulsated and a wicked guitar riff kicked off of the speakers. When the vocals started – a woman with a stunningly soaring voice – the crowd went crazy with a life force of energy, thrilled at every minute.
Liam was pushed into Diane in the crush, amongst a crowd of people with barely any room for them, so they danced chest to chest as more people filled the dance floor and the song emanated feelings of joy. Dancers moved this way and that, hardly able to move their arms, gently but firmly dancing and jostling the girl. Liam didn’t notice until Diane was nearly carried away from him. She let out a startled yell in surprise. Liam held out his hands and steadied her, holding on to her waist and her left elbow so she wouldn’t be stolen by the crowd.
They both laughed, mostly out of fear, calming each other with sweet comforting words after almost losing each other’s grasp. If for a second something had really happened, it would’ve been unbearable, for both.
When Diane looked Liam right in the eyes, she knew his intentions were honourable and genuine. She returned his smile and gently placed her right hand on his neck to bring his head down. She kissed him once on the lips. As friends or had a line been crossed?
The song, an industrial one, still throbbed from the speakers. It was an extended remix of the original track and everyone was vibrant, cheering the DJ on. Hundreds of people moved like an ocean of humanity, constantly flowing. For them the incoming tide on the dance floor was even more heavenly. Liam thought, How could it ever be better than this? It would never be.
For two people who had just met it was even better, something was happening.  Something magical right here and now, a spell so powerful it would never be broken because something precious had come out of nothing.
Another song by a different band came on and the DJ started to fade the previous song, the crowd of dancers slackened somewhat, but neither Diane nor Liam wanted to break the spell that bewitched them both. It was a special moment that came only once in a person’s lifetime, they wanted to enjoy it and let it never end. For now, at least, while the music still played.
Diane gently placed her head against Liam’s solid chest, her red and black hair looked wild under the flashing lights and against his 1988 Fields of the Nephilim tour t-shirt. He brought an arm up to embrace Diane, holding her close and bent his head to kiss the top of her head. In his heart Liam knew this was it. After two marriages, including one where his wife was wickedly taken away from him by cancer, he knew he had found his soul mate. Never again would he be left alone. After this dance Liam would ask Diane to be his Pagan bride, would she be with him for the rest of her life? Would she stay that long?
Diane gently swooned against Liam’s chest, she felt complete, something had happened but she didn’t know what and didn’t dare wonder how long it would last. She wouldn’t leave his side, not to go to the bar or to look for a younger man. Here she wanted to be, no matter what it took or what her mother or her jealous so called friends would say. Other than her music, few things in her young life meant something to her, but this man who had gently taken her heart meant the world to her now. How was this possible? Was it a gothic fairy tale that would end when she opened her eyes or when the clock struck midnight? She never wanted it to end, it occurred to her the songs were right, well some of them.
“Diane?” Liam spoke softly her name.
“Hmmm?” she almost melted as she spoke.
“Once you open your eyes...” Liam stopped at mid sentence.
And she wondered if it was awkward for him to finally say how he was feeling or if he was waiting for another response. Not wanting to spoil the moment, she let herself go with a new song that had just started playing. “Do you hear that?” she said instead. “That’s our song playing.”
Opening his embrace, Liam let her go and kissed her deeply. She returned his kiss, thankful for the passion he gave. The intensity of their bodies started rising to the music once again, which was now an echo of the song that she would remember as their song for the rest of her life. She really loved this. She also loved that song. There was still hope, he let her know. Love wasn’t dead, she thought.

LOSS OF THE ICEQUEEN out now short extract over 18 only

http://www.lulu.com/product/ebook/loss-of-the-icequeen/18953367

Intro

She stood on the frozen surface. Snow, freshly fallen, gave way to her gentle steps. Harder, frozen snow, already turned to ice, remained solid. Ice, two metres thick, formed a barrier to the water beneath but she wasn’t aware of any of this. Instead she screamed, long and hard. In fear, simple animal fear. Until her breath left her and again, her loud high-pitched scream echoed through the falling snow, over the ice. For she was alone, totally alone. It was this one thought that registered again and again in her mind. And a new scream came forth, until, exhausted, she fell to her knees. Broken, exhausted and defeated. Quiet sobs wracked her body, she was spent, a former image of her beautiful Scandinavian self. Almost involuntarily she collapsed in slow motion and lay down on the cold surface, the falling snow turning her pure white. She was lost – her mind had retreated to some other place, not here, far away from here and this ice cold world. Where her dead lost love was, where she was, where they are together. Giving up hope, she prepared to die, to freeze to death, an empty shell of a girl, finally sleeping, her pain and loss and anguish taken away, momentarily…
A distant noise came through the snow, almost non-existent – maybe it was nothing. Did nothing have a sound? Slightly louder, it came again. There was something there, not natural, a man-made sound of a machine in distress. It to was dying; something else was coming to this godforsaken place of death to die. Was it a Norwegian God, coming to claim the lost girl’s soul before she passed – as was alleged to happen in the Viking days? Then it was here, huge black, on fire and dying. The crippled Halifax bomber almost fell onto the ice surface, slicing through the snow blizzard…
In the distant depths of her mind the young Norse girl dreamed, of warmth that wasn’t here, that was now, of a man who she had lost some summers before. A cold, a cold so razor sharp that it threatened to drag her back to some place she wanted to escape from, grabbed hold of her body. Back to the cold place, her dream said. She wanted to reach the warm place, for there she would find him, be with him. Yet she needed the cold that would take her to him, her dead love, because it would freeze her to death on the ice. For how could he have survived the bullets that had pierced his heart, for he was hers? Murdered by her own kind because he was different, was the enemy. Because he wasn’t of the Satanic Church, because they thought he was too good, too pure, to even exist in their world? He dared to fight his common enemies, the Nazis, and the Satanic Black Magicians in the total war that engulfed the whole world. They had guessed his purpose, that he was a Pagan Warrior who had ended his mission; he had failed like all his comrades had. So he had to die, for in war, any war, there is no second place for the defeated.
In her dream, as she drifted towards him, something tried to pull her away, even as she could see him beckoning her to him. Something not of this place pulled her back, even as her body had started to freeze, her body and systems shutting down. Something unknown stirred and an even deeper thing came to her. Quite clearly considering her state. It said, don’t die, don’t die, but another voice in her soul said, I must, to be with him for this world has too much pain. My homeland is overrun by Nazis, my lover is gone and those of my own kind have turned against me. I have nothing, am nothing.
It was not enough: the other thing remained there, refusing to be quiet. In effect it lifted her up from the paralysis that engulfed her mind. Something snapped and caused her to open her eyes, frozen shut with tears, how did she do it? She saw the lake surface, white, fluffy and cold, at a vertical angle. Her brain registered this but remained numb, and then she saw the snowflakes falling, like cold Norwegian tears, her tears, her country’s tears.
Then she heard it, an unearthly roar of an unknown thing not from here and a huge grey shadow passed over her. It touched her, something in her damaged mind whispered, and then it was gone, replaced by a vibration felt through her body. A huge eagle smashed onto the ice, dying, crying in pain, torn asunder. Most important of all, this fallen eagle, this thing carried something for her, very important. Before unconsciousness claimed her once again, ending her mortal fight, she knew that everything was okay, it really was. Blackness came, a welcome friend – she was going, forever from this world…

JUNIPER’S DAUGHTER - TRIP

JUNIPER’S DAUGHTER - TRIP
It was cloudy and we were lost in our airplane. A day trip in my brother’s plane turned out to be a nightmare – we were bloody lost! Our fuel was low. I kept an anxious eye upon the fuel gauge needle; it moved in only one direction, downwards to the empty mark. A fine mess!
My brother grimaced and tapped the gauge. He too thought it was lying! Grimly he spoke: “This ain’t good Lee. We’ll have to ditch in the sea in ten minutes when our gas is gone. There’s no sign of the coast and the compass is bust.”
I looked aghast at my brother. “What?”
“In the sea. A force landing. I hope you can swim,” he added.
Our plane flew lower and the engine stuttered. The grey sea looked menacing under equally grey clouds. We were going in! The engine stopped dead. We went down.
   “Oh shit!” I shouted.
   “Yes,” my bro commented.
Our little aircraft spiralled down to the cold ocean. No more words were said; this was it. Time to die!
***
Juniper’s Daughter and her disc emerged from the grey clouds to rescue the people and their plane just before it touched from the sea. It was a piece of cake for the witch. She grinned and engaged the tractor beam to grab the plane when it was ten meters above the sea. Two lives had been saved. How would the two men take being rescued by an immortal witch in an alien space craft? Would humans never learn about getting lost over the ocean? She would teach them a few basic navigation skills.
